Tumblr let us down

From the BBC website

Good article I think ….

Tumblr has a major porn problem – bots, spam and, most seriously, images of child abuse.

But for those that use its site legally, the decision to ban adult content across its entire network is seen as a reluctance to tackle the issues properly.

Tumblr has decided to give up, rather than do as other sites have done and invest in measures to handle illegal content, while allowing sexual expression.

“There are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content,” said Jeff D’Onofrio, the site’s chief executive, in explaining the decision.

He’s right, of course. There’s a lot of porn out there. But Tumblr has long offered something different, and important.

Founded 11 years ago, Tumblr is a platform where users can publish text, images and videos quickly, as well as share and comment on other submissions. The site’s popularity peaked in 2014. Yet as its use dwindled, its reputation as an alternative corner of the internet grew, not least as a place to find unique adult material.

Unlike typical pornography sites, which overwhelmingly cater to men, and serve an often narrow definition of what is attractive, Tumblr has been a home for something else – content tailored at vibrant LGBT communities, or for those with tastes you might not necessarily share with all your friends.

If society deems it acceptable for any porn to be on the internet, then that acceptance must surely be inclusive. Unlike most of those other sites Mr D’Onofrio speaks of, Tumblr has been a space where different body types are sexually celebrated, not degraded.

‘I had feared this day would come’

In 2015, Cosmopolitan described Tumblr as a place where women “can explore their sexuality with the support of women without judgement or fear”.

It argued that Tumblr’s design seemed to cater to different physical need: offering a slow, building stream of visual and emotional content – rather than the instant video gratification of sites designed with hurried male audiences in mind, fast-forward button and all.

Many on Tumblr have been fearing a porn ban since the network was acquired by fading web giant Yahoo in 2013. That time, the adult content was allowed to remain. But in 2017, when Yahoo was acquired by Oath, the digital arm of telecoms giant Verizon, the writing was on the wall.

“I had feared this day would come,” wrote one user, who runs a fetish account, in response to the chief executive’s message on Monday.

"I’m so sad to see this happen, and can’t believe I’ll be losing this blog. I honestly don’t know what I’ll do without it, but I truly hope that the kinky community comes up with a new place for us all to get together and share.”

When the new guidelines come into effect they will prohibit any depiction of human genitalia, “female-presenting nipples” or sex acts – including illustrations. There will be exceptions for classical artistic works and political protests that involve nudity, but the company warned enforcement might be inconsistent. Users are able to export their posts if they wish to leave the platform.

"We’ve given serious thought to who we want to be to our community moving forward,” Mr D’Onofrio said. “We’ve realised that in order to continue to fulfil our promise and place in culture, especially as it evolves, we must change.”

That change means marginalised people, those who are all-too-used to being ostracised in their offline lives, now face it in their online space too. Some of the internet’s most-needed communities are now homeless.

December 17th relevant information: THIS MAY MEAN YOU, so please take note. A quick review of my Naturism as a Way of Living content, say the last 20 posts, shows only 1 single post marked with a “NSFW” accompanied by a ‘Request review’ button, so I am interpreting this in a POSITIVE way at this time! If the tumblr algorithms select only 5% of the content I previously published as ‘Sensitive’ or ‘Adult’ and auto-hide it from view, this SHOULD be okay, right?

The big, and possibly only, question today (December 4th, 2018) is this: “Will you continue Following my tumblr if 95% of the content remains accessible?” (versus, what about 75%, 50%, or even 25%?…) Please take a moment to comment back on whether or not you feel plain, simple, Nudist and Naturist content is threatened at this time or WILL BE inaccessible after December 17th. I would like to believe tumblr MAY continue allowing thoughtful, considerate and honest content including “simple nudity” after their stated deadline and that what we create as well as the discussions we have on Social Nudity and Body Acceptance are a contemporary subject matter worthy of preserving!

Sincerely and with deep appreciation, ~ Centauri4

You’re lucky. Most Naturist photos I posted were flagged. Even ones without genitals or breasts showing

My thoughts on the new “no porn and no nudity” Tumblr

davescraves3x:

I don’t like it. Some in Tumblr have spent years creating wonderful blogs that included adult content. They’re now being informed that it’s all got to be deleted. We are no longer able to view legal materials of a sexual nature in Tumblr.

Tumblr says it’s a positive change for the better and that there are plenty of other sites to use for porn. Well, I guess it’s time I leave Tumblr and explore the other options. Time to delete my account as it would take days to delete all of my popular adult images.

I welcome any input from my Tumblr friends as to what other sites would be good and similar to Tumblr. Sites that allow adult pleasures to be seen.

It’s a sad time for me, and at least half of all Tumblr viewers who enjoy adult fun.

Don’t delete your account till the bitter end.

It’s art, man/woman/other…

bellsofsaintclements:

In its updated Community Guidelines Tumblr says: “Certain types of artistic, educational, newsworthy, or political content featuring nudity are fine.“ and “Written content such as erotica, nudity related to political or
newsworthy speech, and nudity found in art, such as sculptures and
illustrations
, are also stuff that can be freely posted on Tumblr.”

Based on these lines I’m going to assume this particular blog is acceptable in the eyes of Tumblr. To be sure, I’ll be suspending posting until it’s clear that my interpretation is correct. Using Tumblr the way I do, takes up a lot of time and I don’t want to waste my time on something that’ll be gone in two weeks. I also hope Tumblr will reinstate the search function, especially within a blog, so I can prevent double posts and retrieve information on paintings I posted before. Once I’m sure everything is OK, I will continue to post paintings like I have done for the last year and a half.

My intention is, if all goes well, to return to Tumblr in about a month; let’s say January 1st, 2019. In the meantime: Happy Holidays and a Great 2019!

Reactions are welcome, can’t promise you’ll get a reply…

Scroll down in your posted feed and you’ll see if your art for flagged for violating. I reposted a number of nude artworks from you and they were flagged. Mindless warthogs.

this is bullshit

naked-models:

So apparently they decided to go full suicidal and ban all adult contents from this platform. That includes photos, videos or gifs that “show real-life human genitals or female-presenting nipples”. Yeah, kids must be protected from the ungodly vision of a female nipple.

RIP my blog, it was fun while it lasted.

Where to go now? Pillowfort, maybe? I accept suggestions

I need suggestions fora similar free blog site

If you’re wanting to show your displeasure, don’t just tag staff or support.  Take a page out of other consumer revolts and make sure your displeasure is known.

Don’t be an idiot.  Do not threaten, harass or otherwise make this personal.  Contact these companies, make your displeasure known, alert them that you are a customer and you will be leaving their brand across all boards unless they reverse their decision.

Be clear, be concise, be polite, but make your displeasure known.
